I am just curious what the average price of a regular home is per square foot? What about a luxury home?

What is the going trend for the sale of a house? The Tax Assessment? X% above or below tax assessment?

It seems to me that the bubble for real estate has lagged here, not shielded the economy, from the drops that most other locations have suffered.

Roanoke didn't have as much of a housing bubble as most areas. Prices didn't rise dramatically. I believe because it has very little buildable land in Roanoke County and Roanoke City the prices did not drop that dramatically either. Roanoke just didn't overbuild during the housing bubble because new subdivisions were hard to get approved or find buildable land for (especially in Southwest County).

A regular home I would say is in the $90/sf range or less depending on area. As you go more toward luxury your probably going from $110-120/sf - - of course depending on location and how many amenities and amount of land it could be higher. Overall fairly inexpensive market.

Thank you. That's about my target. Listings I have seen are from $104 to $220/square foot for a high end house in S Roanoke, Hunting Hills, Hidden Valley.

I spoke to a builder who said it would cost $200/square foot for a luxury home.
