The Lynchburg Airport is so small because there are so many larger, more competitive airports within a short drive. The Roanoke Airport has the same problem. About 25 years ago the region goofed up and decided not to build a larger, more competitive airport to serve this part of VA. The rural interests always win out when it comes to building airports, roads as the land needed to build airports is usually in private hands. Now we hear of more airline mergers which will limit choices to just 4 major airlines. Now with budget cuts looming who knows what the future entails for smaller airports?

The 1 good thing about L airport--you can get through security and to you gate in about 10 minutes. Same coming home. So easy. Hoping merger of USAir and American might add another connection beside through Charlotte. But It's still easier than the alternatives. I have tried them all--DC, Roanoke, driving to Charlotte, Raleigh, etc.
