I don't have much knowledge on the current rates charged for apartments. There are several large apartment complexes that seem quite fine. One of the nicest large complexes I have seen is called The Retreat. It just seemed a cut above to me. Sunscape, Glade Creek, Windy Hill Key, The Summit, Pebble Creek Honeywood...there are many more. We actually stayed for two months at Windy Hill Key but that was 13 years ago haha! Their responsiveness to service requests was good.

Others prefer the more active life apartments downtown where you can walk to nightlife. Downtown has its occasional rowdy moments especially when they turn off the taps at 2 a.m.

We live in Daleville and there are a lot of apartments going in there. It is 20-25 minutes to downtown Roanoke, but there are a growing number of amenities right in Daleville too.

What would a two bedroom go for in Daleville?

It looks like $1500-1600. Two biggest options are Daleville Town Center and The Reserve at Daleville.

This was just from peeking at their web pages.

I don’t know how up to date this is, but it gives a great idea of some of the downtown options. There is a lot of new apartment construction across the area.

There are some smaller apartment complexes in the 24015 zip code - older and not as flashy - but for the most part a great zip to live in - Raleigh Court/Grandin Village - if you want something a little less suburban/boring.

If anyone can comment on these streets/addresses. Looking for info on if they are decent areas. The prices for renting seem too good to be true and I was wondering if they are not in good areas. Thanks for any info.

None of these are terrible - the Brandon and Arlington are pretty good choices - Brandon is a busy street so some might prefer to be just off of Brandon rather than ON Brandon. The Cloverdale is a bit farther out but nothing bad about it. The one on Huff is semi-rural next to a neighborhood that some would not prefer. The other one off of Williamson Road - I would have to go look at it. There are some good choices in that area, but some would not like it so much.

The schools (middle school and high school) for the one on Mapleton will not be seen quite as "desirable," but that also might get you a better buy. The neighborhood itself is probably fine as far as safety. There is a GORGEOUS block close to there (Collingwood) that has one of the prettiest stretches of tree-lined sidewalk in the whole city. You should see it in the fall. Williamson Road has a lot of retail - though it sometimes looks a little tacky - it has the biggest collection of various ethnic/international stuff in town!

The Huff St. - I did not know there were new houses over there. It will be fine if you don't mind semi-rural. It is not a long drive to stores and such, but it gets pretty rural pretty quick over there! Slightly off the beaten track...if you know what I mean. But probably EXTREMELY quiet!

What's your opinion of the area around Marshall Ave and 6th Street?

Marshall and 6th has moved up in quality in the last ten years with new construction and new businesses. It is the edge of downtown and is still a touch gritty. Those who don’t mind a little bit of edge will love it - as nearly all of downtown is walkable from there. The neighborhood Old Southwest - immediately south of Elm Street - is much more residential - while north of Elm is more of a mixed bag.

There is a place there but it seems the ad on craigslist is a scam. I got a response but not all of my questions were answered and they wanted a snapshot of a credit check. Not sure how that works but we were advised against pursuing it. The place looks like it was a business on the corner of Marshall & 6th. Would make a great apartment. We're going to stop using craigslist. I ve already written to two other ads that turned out to be scams.
