Hubby and I woke up to the house shaking about 4:05am. Found this on the WSLS site: " Roanoke County Fire Battalion Chief, Darryl Sexton, tells WSLS that there was an earthquake in Roanoke County this morning after 4 a.m. Sexton said ithe earthquake measured 2.6 on the Richter Scale, and was centered around Cordell Drive off Electric Road." (Earthquake hits Roanoke Co. | WSLS 10)

I'm originally from Southern California and I thought I'd left earthquakes behind. Are earthquakes common in Roanoke??

That was so awesome! We used to have earthquakes in MD but although they showed up on the Richter scale, you could never feel them. I was just awake enough to feel it & wonder WTF?!

I was half awake half sleep kinda dazed when I heard the windows shake and my apartment shake I honestly thought it was a medivac helicopter going to RMH but when I got to work numerous people asked me did I feel it. I was in shock! Just glad no one got hurt and no serious damage was reported. Things like this are kind of neat when nothing bad happens because of it.

I wonder if all the rain we've gotten had anything to do with the tremor. The Cave Spring area is riddled with underground aquifers and soft minerals. The pretend geologist in me imagines a massive underground cavern collapsing and creating the 2.6 "quake", haha. Maybe there is a brand new large sinkhole down in some holler somewhere

There was a much stronger one in the Lynchburg area in 2003. Did some damage to chimneys and old brick homes.

I never woke up! My hubby woke me up long enough to say hold the dog and disappeared downstairs, knife in hand... Called him from work Saturday to let him know it was an earthquake... Silly him, he stayed up all night thinking someone was trying to break in and the poor dog now is afraid to go downstairs or outside.

My husband and I were on our boat on Sat morning - when he turned on NOAA weather to see if our Poker Run would get rain he heard the news of the earthquake!!! Imagine our surprise. When I called my son he (he can sleep through a tornado) said the whole house shook and he thought he was having a bad dream at first. From there I spoke to everyone at the lake event that had come from Roanoke - very interesting stories. Just glad it wasn't worse.
