I heard about it and was completely surprised that I actually felt a sense of disappointment when I read the news.

I wanted that hotel so bad. I figured it would sit empty until I graduated from college and I could scrounge some pennies together to fix it up. lol

Talk about a pipe-dream. LOL

Anyway, the plan says it could be up to $14million invested to renovate but I honestly think thats a bit low. A while back (few years ago I believe) the number was estimated at $13million, but I fear once they really start digging around and realize everything that may be wrong with the place, the price could shoot up.

Also, the plans call for apartments, offices and retail (including dining) but I wonder if he considered converting it (at least a portion of it...maybe 5 or so floors) back to a hotel. I think it would be good for the area, though logistically it may be difficult to compete with modern hotels (no on-site pool for one).

I'm afraid they will find more problems in renovating also. It has been remodeled before when the Hotel Roanoke was shut down. It was very busy at one time which leads me to believe downtown really needs another Hotel.
I have noticed a lot more people visiting town. Why doesn't a developer build another Hotel? There certainly seems to be a need!
