Yesterday morning, I was on the road since 5am headed from University of Tennessee to the University of South Carolina for a lacrosse tournament. Around 7am, I was driving on I-40 East and got pulled over for doing 90mph in a 60. I'll admit, I was speeding majority of the trip so me and my 2 teammates wouldn't be late to our 9:0am game, but i usually always keep it under 80. I was keeping up with traffic and also in the left lane, and going down a hill turn and was still accelerating until the cop stopped me. he must've clocked me at my highest speed because before i even saw the state trooper i was slowed down to 75 after the hill. What should i do for this? I cannot attend court on the assigned date because i have finals that entire week, plus the court date is in Asheville and not knoxville. i don't have any points on my license and i've never gotten a reckless driving ticket before. I am also an out of state student and I have a license from Maryland, where i'm from.
Understood! Get a lawyer in the Asheville area who will be able to appear for you and negotiate this for you. I don't know if this works for out of state licenses, but once every X number of years NC allows for what is called a Prayer for Judgment, which reduces or waives a higher speeding ticket. I used to live in NC (in Asheville, actually) before moving to Rochester and got a Prayer for Judgment once for going 15 over. If the Prayer for Judgment is not an option there are others the lawyer can work out for you.
