My family is considering relocating to Canandaigua, NY. The area has many attractions for us but we are wondering about the public schools, and in particular the elementary school(s). The ratings and test scores for the public schools in Canandaigua are good but not great, at least compared to the more affluent Rochester suburbs. Does anyone have deeper insight into the public schools in Canandaigua?
Canandaigua's schools are very good. I grew up going to that school district and felt it was top notch. It is a silver rated school by US News, so that is actually a great rating. It's tough to compare it against some of the Eastern Monroe county suburbs because those schools are nationally ranked. So if you were to rank Canandaigua against the vast majority of the schools in the country, it would be considered a very high ranking. But because Rochester has such highly ranked schools in other suburbs, it kind of distorts the ranking.
But yes, it is a very good school district that I think you would be very happy with.
Anecdotal evidence, but I know two families who have children in Canandaigua schools, both elementary like you, and they like it. Like the previous poster said, no it is not the best in the area but it is also up against some very stiff competition, the Canandaigua school district could easily be the best in many other communities across the country.
Thanks so much to everyone who replied! This is very, very helpful. Thank you.
