RIT just continues to solidify its standing as one of the top game design schools in the world. This is a big deal as Video Games are starting to rival major movies in terms of revenue.

Quote:
Animation Career Review has named Rochester Institute of Technology the top game design school on the East Coast. RIT also ranked third on the list of Top 50 Game Design Schools in the U.S.

The 2017 rankings were created by Animation Career Review, an online resource for aspiring animation, game design and development, graphic design and digital art professionals. The annual list also named RIT the top game design school in New York state and second best private school nationally.

“It’s great to be recognized for the hard work we put into our outstanding programs in games,” said David Schwartz, director of RIT’s School of Interactive Games and Media (IGM). “RIT stands out as a game design school because we provide opportunities for students and faculty to collaborate with others across the university—including RIT’s College of Imaging Arts and Sciences—and professionals in the industry.”

Animation Career Review noted that RIT offers several programs for aspiring game designers, including two bachelor’s degrees and one master’s. In fact, any student studying computing in RIT’s B. Thomas Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences has the opportunity to minor in game design and development.

Should only get better after the completion of MAGIC Spell Studios. As a soon to be alumni (less than two weeks!) it's good to see RIT getting the recognition it deserves.

That is awesome gt! Glad you were able to get a good offer and to stay in the area too! I turned down offers in Boston and Seattle to stay in Rochester when I finished school. I love living here and really realized how much I enjoyed living here during my co-ops out of state.

I don't know the West side as much, but if you need any suggestions for areas to look for homes on the east side just let me know.

What's Magic Spell Studio? This is great news for RIT and the area. Now if they can just keep those graduates in the region, that would be amazing!

It's a new building that RIT is building which is going to have state of the art Sound Mixing Studios, Animation Studios, Film Studio, a tiered 4K movie theater, a game design studio and color correction studios.

The idea is that there is so much cross-over with other multimedia disciplines and game design, that this will be the first building in the nation to align all those tools together in one place and allow easy collaboration.

Also think about it this way too. If you are looking to start a game company, film and sound is becoming so important, that having this facility in your backyard that you can use along with students being taught to be cross-disciplinary, is very valuable. Not only should it help students in the classroom, but it should also help to breed more local companies and even attract new companies to the area in multi-media.
