"Monroe County is reviewing its plans for a massive expansion of Seneca Park Zoo after receiving just one construction bid, which came in more than $52 million higher than the county’s estimated cost.

County Executive Adam Bello first announced the proposed zoo expansion, featuring a new entry and a tropics complex housing an indoor rainforest and 220,000-gallon aquarium, during his state of the county address in May 2022.

“It’s time to take the zoo to the next level to reach its true potential because our residents and the zoo’s residents deserve to have a world-class zoo,” he said at that time of the St. Paul Street attraction, in existence since 1894."
