We bought our home in the summer. All the smoke detectors are battery operated. There is one carbon monoxide detector that is a plug-in. Best bet is to call city hall and ask.
I believe a wired smoke detector is needed to get a c of o for rentals but if its owner occupied a battery smoke and co2 is ok but best to check the cities website
My insurance mandated hard-wired smoke detectors in my rental units. They were not that hard to install if you know a little about electrical wiring. They weren't very expensive either.
