Hi: I'm a 53 y.o. single woman with mobility problems (recent back surgery, etc.). My income recently went down significantly - by about 25%. I need to move from the house I'm currently renting, but don't know in which direction to head. Would like to stay in NM, but will consider other places as well. I like semi-rural living - meaning rural but with basic shopping and good medical care pretty close by (15 mins - 1 hr?). Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I want to settle down someplace and stay put! Keep getting priced out almost anywhere I go. It's so difficult to find something low-rent that's decent and in a safe area, AND where I don't need to worry so much about the rent going up. I currently pay $550/mth and have some wiggle room, but not much. HELP please! and Thanks much.

Check out your counties housing authority. They should be able to steer you towards some affordable housing.
