I'm not trying to be a smarty pants but how much money do you have? Therein lies the rub for most of us that want the same thing. That real estate and rentals tend to take lots of coin.

What is your definition of Quaint?

Do you want an active "downtown" area with a baker, butcher, hardware store, bank all in historic buildings and not over run with tourists?

Or do you want a place off the beaten track, nobody has heard of?

Where? The US has lots and lots of coast and Canada even more. If I wanted coastal I would look at some place like Lunenburg, Nova Soctia.

North, South, West?? Big difference between those areas. Beaufort SC could be classified in this way and then for others, would be too large. New Bern NC is a very quaint and beautiful coastal town (the TV Dawson's Creek was filmed there). Need more information to answer.

To get really away from it all try a small Outport on Newfoundland like Ferryland. They are beyond quaint. Some of these places do not have road connections. Effectively they are on the other side of the moon.

MD has numerous waterfront towns on both sides of the Chesapeake as well as the Potomac River (as does VA).
