My little hometown, actually two side-by-side small towns that share a high school, was scheduled to play their first football game tonight.
The opposing team canceled with about 4 hours notice.
The Band Boosters had stocked up on Chick-fil-A to sell at the concession stand investing about $2,000 in the process. Without the game, they were at risk of a loss. Word went out on social media and they sold out in less than two hours!
And take that all you city slickers who professes you will never stop in a small town because you do not think you’ll get out in one piece. — you know who you are————

God bless our small towns!
That's the type of thing that happens to make me love small town life. I moved out of the big city almost 10 years ago and will never go back.
That’s awesome! Except for the part about the game being canceled. Hopefully next week!
I don’t blame them for canceling since the county is in a hot zone for the virus but that’s something that should have been considered in the days before, not the day of the game to your point. It’s the second cancellation by this same team in the last few years so I suspect the home town folks will remember this now. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.”
Sounds like the home town school needs to stop scheduling any games with that one in future.
Nope. I imagine the other school had a good reason and didn't cancel just because they didn't feel like having a game that night. Lots of schools cancelling games for Covid.
Another sign of small towns coming together, is a young man was killed in a fight the other night. Two 19 year old men were fighting at a park in a town where I used to live. One man picked up the other, slamming him on the blacktop basketball court several times. He died at the scene. The town has really stepped up for the family during all this. A local bakery was making pies for sale in their shop but all were sold before they were out of the oven for people wanting to take them to the bereavement dinner. There will be enough food given by friends and locals who don't even know the family that they could eat all week on just what's left from the dinner. I've heard the victim liked to ride a motorcycle so a local bike rider put the word out for bikers to ride escort at the funeral. This happened for a good friend of mine several years ago and they ended up with almost 120 bikers leading the Hearse.
It's good to see people helping out where needed.

Kygman, you must have missed the part where the OP said it's not the first time that team has pulled this stunt...

You have no idea, why they cancelled the game. Today living in a county that is a hot zone from the pandemic, cancelling the game as not to endanger their players and families, is a very sensible and thoughtful thing to do. To play the game, would be the stupid thing to do in the present health conditions in this country. And none of us know why they cancelled the first time.
