Corn is not a natural or healthy food for deer living in the wild.
Look into something more helpful...
Game wardens and extension service (agrilife texas) can set you straight.
Please tell that to all the deer on my ranch/farm. They attack the corn like nothing else and always have. If not in the corn they are in the wheat and alfalfa.
I live where temperatures can reach -40 and we have deep snow in the wilderness but deer, moose, elk, survive in winter without human help. As do coyotes and wolves, badgers and wolverines, weasels and voles, porcupine. Yes it is harsh, very harsh.
If you do not have a thick snow pack then deer do not need any help as long as they can dig up food under snow. It is larger habitats they need and places to find safety.
As for corn, even if deer are hungry they are not going to eat the corn exclusively. Animals know what is good for their bodies and know what to eat to fulfill their nutritional needs. I wouldn't worry so much about feeding them corn or hay etc. They won't eat what isn't good for them.
...The deer seem to be doing quite well around here. On any given day, I see at least a half dozen, if one less such as the one who I hit last week out on the road.
So-o, do they really need my help or should I just give in further to my personal philosophy of letting the ranch be wild outside the house foot print and not make any changes either way?....
We've got deer around here, too. I wondered about putting out some sort of food to keep them around, so I did a little research. Long story short, I found it's basically a bad idea.
