If you look around real good, you might find a place you can love, around Felton.
Years ago, sometimes you could find a bit of bare land near Camp Harmon.
Boulder Creek is actually cheaper than Felton now... I put in a bid on a place in Felton, which was smaller and more expensive than the one I bought in B.C. People like Felton for its convenience and amenities, in comparison to B.C.
Not to be rude to the OP (if they ever come back) or anyone else but why would anyone give the name of their town to answer questions like this? More people move in and your town is wrecked.
It's been 2 months, I highly doubt the OP is coming back.
I've driven through Show Low multiple times, and think it is a very nice town. But I don't live there so it is no concern to me if more people move there.
I will be moving back to my extremely rural area when I retire, and most people can't handle being that far from 'civilization' [fancy restaurants, shopping, and the like].

Our lot is on the north side in the tall pines off the BBH. I'm frankly afraid to build there now. One of these days there's going to be a fire there that makes the Oakland fire look like a weenie roast. We should have sold before the tech exodus, haven't been there in 5 years. But taxes are low and my trophy wife might move there after I kick the bucket. Just too much traffic in the bay area for me and I'm too old to surf Maverick's now. And it's just a little too far to commute into San Jose.

I'm not too worried about a sudden influx to my town; if it hasn't happened by now, a thread on City-Data won't make much of a difference. Besides, I'm not one of those people who thinks "now that I'm here, close the gates!" People who act like that are insufferable.

Eh, I commute farther than that 5x/week - and fires are always a danger in every part of CA/SW. But to each their own! Good luck with the trophy wife, lol.

I used to see that when I was a member of the county planning commission. I would suggest zoning, not because I was in favor of zoning, but as an option. What these people really seemed to want was zoning that only applied to their neighbors.
In fact, I was on the planning commission when the farm across the street came before us as a proposed development. It met the regulations, so I voted for it, even though I preferred the farm to a subdivision. It worked out well, however. The neighbors in the new subdivision bought multiple lots and built far back from the road, so we're not looking into each other's windows. There is a lot more traffic on my road now, but I don't miss all of the flies and mosquitos from the farm.

I guess that's just another form of NIMBY - but with anyone not born there, it annoys me even more. Like, what makes them so special? You (they) were a "transplant" yourself at one time, but NOW you think the migrations should cease?

I saw this on more than one occasion. They basically said "Now that I have moved here, it's time to put up the No Vacancy sign."

This rings so true in my ears. Having witnessed many elderly residents who over their lifetime built and nurtured the communities that are now great places to live.... no longer able to afford to live there.
Our family has been displaced from farms 3x, and now too old to build another farm (takes about 20 - 30 yrs)
But very typical today... "I've got mine, srxw you".
