Help! I am moving to Sacramento August 1st and have no clue as to where to live and especially where not to live. As with all cities, I am sure that Sacramento has "good" and "bad" areas, I just don't know where they are. And how about commuting into the town from the outskirts, and "suburbs" better than other to live. I presently live in Phoenix and we have great areas, good areas, and the "bad" areas too, I just am really worried about signing a multiyear lease and then being blindsided.....any help you can give would be appreciated!!!

Citrus Heights, Roseville, Rocklin, Gold River (not Rancho Cordova, sometimes that zip code pops up along with Gold River but they aren't the same) and Fair Oaks are great choices. Carmichael is iffy in parts. These suburbs are pretty close to the freeways although anywhere you live there will be traffic, so "distance" isn't always the issue...it's the people in your way ! Very nice areas, I would look there first!

I can't help since we moved away from Sacramento last year to another state. However, I can wish you luck. There's something and somewhere in Sacramento for everyone! Enjoy!

Default Sac Places to Live

I am going to be renting an apartment at first, so I won't be worrying about house prices right away....

Where are you going to be working? If we know the general neighborhood it's easier to suggest a nearby place to live. If your workplace is in a nice part of town, you can get to work on a bike or even walk.

If you're going to be working downtown, then Natomas area is an easy commute on I-5.

I live in Carmichael, and if I leave downtown at 3:30, it's about 30 minutes to get home. Leaving at 5:00 it can be anywhere from 45 minutes to 90 minutes to get home.
