I live in New England and know nothing about North Highlands, my wife is going to be working there now. We found an apartment complex called Norden Terrace Apartments. Is this a good apartment building? Or is there somewhere else that may be better to look since we have a 4 year old? We live in an urban area where there is crime but its not to crazy. Also any recommendations for a preschool? Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend it. Run down and a very high crime area. You and your family would be much better off in Carmichael, Fair Oaks or the nicer parts of Citrus Heights.

Only move forward if they are providing bullet proof vests along with the apartment.

I also would not recommend moving to North Highlands. It's not considered the worst area in the Sacramento region, but it's up there. I am not fimiliar with that particular apartment complex, but North Highlands doesn't have a good reputation at all. Some areas to consider that are much better for the most part and still within relatively short driving distance are Carmichael, Fair Oaks (where I live), Orangevale and parts of Citrus Heights . These areas are also in the San Juan Unified school district which is considered a good school district. I have child in elementary school and I'm very happy with it. There are other nice 'suburban' areas (but a bit pricier) to consider such as Roseville and Folsom, but will be more of a drive to North Highlands. If you want to be closer to more of a 'city vibe' then you'd want to look into 'Midtown' Sacramento and adjoining East Sacramento, but I'm not sure how the public schools are and it would be a bit of a drive to North Highlands although an opposite commute. By the way as for preschool, my daughter went to La Petite for preschool (there are several locations around the area) and we were very happy. I know there are other good preschools, but only have first hand experience with La Petite. I moved out here several years ago from New York so I know how it feels to move cross country and not know anything about the area. Good luck whatever your decision might be!

Please do not move to North Highlands. Its a run-down area that used to be home to the US Air Force. the Air Force left around 2000. Now it has lots of crime and is generally crummy. As others said there are much nicer areas just a few miles away like Fair Oaks or Carmichael. Good luck.

I actually works close the the apt you are mentioned. I wouldn't recommend that place at all. 2 miles south of that place is the famous hooker hotel.
