I live in Tahoe and am interested in SAC

I am looking for a one bedroom central location, since my job requires me to drive around to accounts. The max I can pay is $550 maybe $600.

What areas do you suggest and what area's should I avoid?

For $600/month you're going to be living in a cardboard box.

Majin is the resident yuppie condo dweller who is constantly outraged by urban sprawl. It's either vertical or it doesn't exist, and you probably won't find anything more than three stories for $600 a month. Arden-Arcade or RC aren't really central, unless your accounts are split between Sacramento and Folsom. Arden-Arcade and Carmichael have nice areas and RC has a few semi-nice areas as far as suburbs go. You won't be in them for $600 a month. Just because there's a fence around it doesn't mean it's a good area.

what does that mean?

I just called a few in Arden and ALta Arden, Since reading that RC is not the best. I have been to RC in May and it was spotty but, i was more a tourist and stayed a local hotel I saw a lot of homeless.

I just called a place called VIlla Roma and Mariconi Ave. they have one beds for $525 and it looks decent.

seems close to Downtown Sac about a 20 min drive on mapquest does that sound right?

Probably 20-30 with traffic. Marconi is a major thoroughfare, so you'll have road noise. Otherwise it's not a bad area. Better than living on or off Alta Arden, but further out.

Yeah, typically "gated community" just means "there is a gate in front." $600 is pretty low for a 1-bedroom but not unattainable.

Arden is perfectly fine and it is 10 minutes to downtown.

Some people on these forums will only push neighborhoods like Roseville, Folsom or Midtown without any regards to cost of living.

Arden is fine. Is it the safest area? No, but it's not a bad area, it has a lot of businesses going on and is pretty central in terms of location.

There are plenty of apartments around for $600 and under. Some are decent, others not so decent. Carmichael, Rancho Cordova, North Highlands, Citrus Heights etc are all areas worth looking into. Make sure you tour whatever place your interested in.

I read here that North Highlands, Citrus heights and parts RC are dangerous.
