My wife is being transferred to California and has a choice to live/work in one of these areas. We have 2 girls 2 and 5months and a 15 year old son. We are wondering what these places are like as we have never been to CA before. We were born and raised in Denver area. What is the crime comparisons like? Also any advice on where is a better family environment and why? Oh and what are the best areas to live in or near each city? Thank you all.

redding is hot and depressed economically. Modesto is in the central valley, and not very desirabole, although livable. Pleasanton is nice, in the good parts, but very bustling east bay, crowded, traffic, if I had to work in Pleasanton I may consider living in Danville. Not sure about copperopolis. Sacramento would be my choice by far- except I can't include copperopolis of course- because it is a laid back city with easy access to lakes, rivers, lots of trees, some culture, and a decent economy.

If money is not an issue, I'd choose Pleasanton hands-down. The central valley in general is not as nice as the Bay Area. The climate is more harsh, the unemployment rate is higher, the air quality is worse, crime is not great and the housing market has tanked more. Pleasanton is a nice, upscale community with great schools. It is suburban, but you have easy access to downtown SF with BART. However, it is much more expensive than the rest. Copperopolis is pretty in the Sierra foothills, but it is tiny, so I wouldn't think there's much to do there except hang out on the lake or at the Indian casino.

Copperopolis is a city supporting a state prison. Many families live their so they can visit on fathers day.
First sign you read as you get near Copperopolis is warning against picking up hitch hikers.

Don't do Stockton period. Pleasanton is very very nice, beautiful there and the weather is great. Of your choices Pleasanton is easily the best one. Is your wife in the medical field?

There are some nice parts about Copper, I'd never heard of any reference to what Ferretkona addressed, but I've got a few friends that live there and they seem to like it just fine.
