West Sac is a relatively small town.

What part of West Sac are you in? The newer side is south of 50, the Southport area, but there are newer developments on the far north side, I think up by Riverbend Nature Area. It really depends on what you are comfortable with.

I agree. The Southport area is almost sterile in its neatness. When I arrived in Sacramento in 2003, I heard stories of street-walking and drug activity along West Capitol between 6th and Jefferson by the time I started working near Harbor and Evergreen. I never actually witnessed any of that and lately, West Capitol has received very attractive makeovers extending west of the RiverCat Stadium. Very clean and safe as anywhere else I have walked around.

For a woman, I would avoid West Capital Ave. area though the west Sacto. Police are very personable & professional.

Yes I also heard bad stories about them too. I haven't experienced any sour encounters. But maybe it's because the only contact I have has was when I was driving a Fed Ex Van and was approached and given a warning about a barely visible street marking by a very friendly, polite officer.
