Out of all the cellphone companies, which company do you think have the most reliable, most clear connection for talking in the Sacramento area or county?

I think Verizon wins pretty much everywhere, followed by AT&T, but they're also the most expensive.

People at work couldn't get AT&T reception in the stairwells, but Verizon worked everywhere.

That's what I've found too. There are a bunch of "marginal" spots (like stairwells, or certain spots in the exurbs) where VZN works but ATT and T-Mobile struggle. I live in the city, don't talk on long drives don't care all that much, and generally only stream music from wi-fi, so I save a heap of cash of T-Mobile.

You are asking quite a broad question..

Verizon (VZW) has the largest number of "cell sites" with the largest amount of area coverage of any network to date. They have also been one of the most expensive carriers as well, although recent changes have taken place due to the cellular market heating up that have lowered prices across the board (thanks tmobile).

AT&T is a strong 2nd in cell sites and coverage/performance, with Sprint having the 3rd largest. Both are dumping A LOT of money to increase network capacity, coverage, and speed, including the Sacramento area. Tmobile is the smallest network of the 4 but has launched a major ad campaign to draw customers away primarily from AT&T.

If you are really concerned about coverage local to you or to a specific area, then you need to find the locations of cell sites of that network in the area to give you an "idea" that there is at least some coverage.
