For the I-80 corridor between Roseville and Auburn? Some wants are good schools, low crime, and a minimum 3/2 home (preferably new or within 5yr) with at least a 1/2 acre lot. You know the usual wants, right. Work will be located anywhere along this interstate segment as well. Thoughts or suggestions..

"Is a salary of 100,000 sufficient"

Should be, unless you've got a cocaine problem.

Depends on how much you have to put down, and how much you want to spend. With that salary, I'd be comfortable spending $300k, you might be willing to spend more, but I don't think you will be able to find a 1/2 acre lot for that price.

You might have more options if you look North of 80, especially along highway 193 which is the highway that connects Newcastle with Lincoln. I am assuming if you want a min of a half acre you are looking for horse property.

Gosh, wouldn't be putting much down on a home. Maybe 5-10% if even. Would just like a little space that's all. Not particularly for keeping horses. I'll look into that area between Newcastle and Lincoln. Sounds promising.

It might be hard to find a home that doesn't require more $ down since most will have some issues to be attended to in escrow. If you're talking loomis, it might be a little more challenging to afford. Shelato steered you in a good direction.

NO. The half acre requirement will have you living out in the boonies with a septic tank.

At that income you are looking at a 1800-2000 sf house, 4000-8000 sf of land, house probably 10-30 years old, in that neck of the woods.

Good schools will be easily had, though.

If you want rural, Newcastle/Lincoln is very nice, but a long commute. Great if you work from home, but about an hour to get in to midtown (downtown) Sacramento if you work there.

Consider Granite Bay (very upscale, but there are lower-cost properties) or Elk Grove if you want suburbia - if you're married with kids; midtown if you want 25-30 year old society and/or if you're single (but the crime is much worse in midtown; practically non-existent in Newcastle/Lincoln.)

You'll have to back off the half-acre requirement unless you can accept the long commute.

Unless you find a custom home, I don't think there are any newer tract homes with lots that are even 1/4 acre, most are around 4k sq ft. We looked at a few older homes in Roseville on 1/4 acre for under 300k but most were badly outdated and would need at least some renovation.
