I grew up in west part of Folsom and went to school there from 3rd grade through high school. I even attended Folsom Lake College back when it was a lot smaller than it is now. It was a great city to grow up in and the schools were excellent. I was heavily involved in the band program which are some of my best memories from growing up. I used to ride my bike along the American River bike trail up to the lake or down to Lake Natoma. Not sure that would be a great idea now because the city isn't a small town anymore and there are crazies somehow anywhere you go now.

My closest friends to this day are ones that I met as a child growing up in Folsom. Been best man at their weddings. Play golf regularly with them. Folsom to me is a very family oriented city and offers something to everyone. Don't be afraid to take a chance on it.

I was just wondering if anyone who lives in Folsom can tell me about their experiences. Is it a great place for families? I’ve read reviews about the schools, but I don’t actually know anyone who has gone through the schools or have children enrolled. My child is only a toddler, but once we move, we plan on staying put for a long time – at least until our kids are in college. I was just wondering if anyone can offer any information on the good and/or bad general experiences they have had. Do you love living there?
Hey, I'm in the same boat. Living in Elk Grove and thinking of Folsom.

Where in EG do you live? I'm thinking of moving to Folsom due to access to nature, larger lot sizes, and restaurants but DEFINITIVELY not because of the schools. If your unhappy with your local schools then get an inter district transfer there are tons of 9/10 rated schools in EG.

There's a lot to like about Folsom, but the car commute would kill me to downtown. I'm disappointed to read in this thread the light rail, isn't an option. Is it really filled with that many homeless people? What do,they do that makes it so bad?

Not sure where you are reading that light rail isnt an option. It is. Lots of people use it. From my understanding, it's "not filled" with homeless people, but it is close quarters, and the homeless certainly does affect those who use light rail. My SIL has been riding LT from Folsom since it was available.
