Hello Everyone,

My husband and I recently decided to move to Sacramento from San Diego County (mostly due to the lower cost of living I have read about). We have 3 children one in middle school, one in elementary school (needs special ed), and a toddler. We are looking for a safe affordable area to rent an apartment. We are looking for preferably something under 1300 for a 2 bedroom. Is this possible is Sacramento? We have been priced out of SD County and I would rather spend more time with my kids than work 2 jobs constantly to pay rent. Is the cost of living really lower in Sacramento? My husband and I both work fulltime and make around 65,000 a year. Can a family of 5 make it in the Sacramento area on that kind of an income? We don't really care about luxury just a safe neighborhood with some decent schools. Also, if anyone has experience with special education in Sacramento schools please let me know how your experience was, and if they have good programs for children with learning disabilities. I am not worried about work at this point since I am planning on transferring from my current job, and my husband will do the same.

Thank you in advance.

Yes, you can find an apartment to rent for that, in fact you could probably find a 2 bdrm house to rent for $1300. Is the cost of living lower? Housing costs are, but gas, food, etc are probably the same. I don't know much about the schools but I'm sure someone can jump in here and give you those answers. In the meantime check craigslist for rents: sacramento housing - craigslist

It seems that Rocklin and Folsom are popular areas for families, but where are you going to be working?

I will be working for a home care company doing mostly wound care visits as an LVN. My husband works as a merchandiser so we will both be traveling during the workday.
