Thanks for the information caligirlz. You have been very helpful. I am leaning more towards Folsom. I may have a job opportunity in Rancho Cordova area. I am assuming that would be a better commute than downtown?

I would definitely go for Folsom, it has great shopping, very safe, quick access to both Lakes in the region, and it's also a very quick commute to Rancho Cordova.

There are also plenty of options within Folsom itself. Old town Folsom is very walkable, has bars/restaurants/shops, and is also walking distance to the beautiful Lake Natoma.

The rest of Folsom is newer suburban, with a few older pockets mixed in.

This is the Rainbow Bridge in oldtown, it really is a beautiful area:

Folsom is nice.
As for the commute, you will still experience the same amount of traffic, but for a shorter distance. I drive to East Sac once a month, and this week, since school was out, I expected the traffic to be less. I left Folsom at 630. It was relatively lighter between East Bidwell & Folsom Blvd, and then it jammed all up and slowed down. It really depends on your tolerance. My company/division is moving to RC in the fall. I made the decision to work from home so I don't have to do the daily drive.

What do you consider great shopping?
We do have a good selection of specialty grocery stores... Whole Foods, Trader Joes, the Nugget (in EDH)

Folsom is not unique in it's shopping options.
Just like every suburb, we have Raley's, Bel Air, Safeway, Winco, most of the big box/discount stores, Costco & Sam's

Most of the stores on Sutter Street or the Palladio are too expensive. No, I'm not paying $500 for a pair of jeans.

For real shopping for quality items for a reasonable cost (ie, furniture, clothing, appliances, etc), I go to Roseville or elsewhere.

I really like Folsom as well (but I do not live there) I love their shopping area - Palladio. Also that mall has a nice movie theatre.

Also, if you're looking to meet new friends, there is nice Folsom 20's 30's group on meetup.com that I joined and have met many nice young professionals through that group.
