What is unique about Sacramento that the other large cities can’t offer?

In most major cities, you can't party while rafting down a clean River in the HEART of the City/Metro.

It's a SACRAMENTO PAST TIME, to raft down the AMERICAN RIVER.

Sac is extremely ethnically diverse and open to all ways of living and thinking. You will often see politicians, mid 50 year olds and twenty something hipsters in the same bar - and they are interacting with one another. There does not seem to be the economic or social barriers that separate people in other larger, more traditional major metros. No one seems to judge anything here.

Sac has a unique soul due to its location on the river, bred by its history of settlers coming and going. So, you find a lot of interesting architecture that has remained intact for over a century. Huge Victorian homes with extended Porches, old banks and historical buildings of all kinds dot the city. Many of these have been restored and have become restaurants, bars or apartment buildings. It's something that is very unique to Sac.

Sac is a very artistic city. There are well over 20 art galleries that I can think of in Midtown. Theatre thrives here. Comedy and improv is growing. Music is everywhere. Street murals are everywhere. It is very much a working class town, and I feel that that fact, coupled with its ethnic diversity, makes Sac a much more artist city than other larger metros where the cost of living or corporate environment has driven the artistic soul out of the city.

Last, the trees! Sac has more trees than any other city in the country. At times it feels as though you are walking through a forest here. If you love nature, Sac is a cool place to be.

Look for the "River City Chronicles". Just google it.

It is a newly published book about life in Sacramento.

The Author is J. Scott Coatsworth:
Scott lives with his husband of 25 years in a leafy Sacramento, California suburb, in a little yellow house with a brick fireplace and a couple pink flamingoes out front.

I'm reading the book now and I can't put it down.

That is very true--as long as you are progressive, non-religious, and pro-alternative lifestyles. If you're Conservative, particularly Christian Conservative, then it works best to just keep your mouth shut. In the past 5 or 6 years I've heard a massive increase in anti-Christian, anti-Jewish, and anti-Republican comments while in various stores or at events.

I'm not sure what part you're living in, or your lifestyle, but I see judging everyday. And the lines between who's "acceptable" and who's not is clear to see.

No, it's not a typo. The male author is legally married to a man. It's pretty common in Sacramento, really anywhere across California and the Country. Gay marriage is legal in the United States.
