I am considering relocating to the Sacramento area in the spring from Chicago. I need advice on good areas to initially rent. Also interested in any other constructive advice or tips on experiencing a successful relocation. Also I work in the healthcare field in Occupational Therapy and would appreciate info on area hospitals, home health agencies, and nursing facilities that are good employers

Google searches will give you most of the information you seek. In Sacramento the primary hospitals are run by Mercy, Sutter and Kaiser. I'd jump on their websites to see if they're advertising openings. The state also hires OTs and it looks like there are openings in Tracy, Vacaville and Napa.

If you want a job in the medical field look into (as the prev post said Sutter, Mercy or Kaiser) If you can get Mercy/Sutter --Try to get a home/apartment in the East Sacramento or Midtown area. If you can get into Kaiser Roseville -Then try to get a home/apartment in Roseville (new or old) -Kaiser South Sacramento --Don't move into a place in "South Sacramento" -You can get a home/apartment in Elk Grove area.

Places I have lived and loved is East Sacramento, Midtown and Elk Grove. (Zip codes 95624, 95812, 95814, 95816 and 95819.

Sacramento is a great place! --Good luck!

Thanks thus far for the responses, they've been helpful. I actually spent 3 months (June- Sept 2008) working a temp position at Mercy and I did enjoy it. I have active licenses in IL., NV, and CA currently as well as considering OR. The overall cost of living is lower in NV (absence of state tax helps as well). I lived in Las Vegas for 18 months and although I love the climate there, not much else about the city is appealing to me. No California is also a draw with the ocean and overall beauty but costs there are a killer and So. California not really for me (except possibly San Diego). In todays economy and difficult job climate I feel fortunate to have such flexibility due to demand in my field. I have a few months to decide all pros and cons, needing to make a decision by early May if I decide to take an initial 13 week assignment with one of several "travel companies" that have offered assignments. Again, thanks for the imput and appreciate any additional thoughts tou may have.

You seem to be under the impression that Las Vegas is a city. I'm a bit confused as to how to came to that conclusion.

Mercy San Juan in Carmichael is the trauma center for that region. Active PT/OT Dept when I was there couple years ago.

Kaiser South down highway 99 was designated as the trauma center south of Sac if you can tolerate Kaiser.
