Hi Everyone,

What are your opinions on the area. I'm looking at a rental on 35th St and I am wondering what the area is like. The street looks nice based on google street view but I know I should not rely on that. I guess this area is known as oak park...

The second area I found a rental at is in Colonial Heights...don't know much about the area either. More specifically the rental is located right near San Francisco Blvd.

Thanks for any help you can offer

Search this section of the city-data forum for threads on Oak Park. The neighborhood is a "diaspora" area (it was one of two neighborhoods where Sacramento's African American community moved when the city demolished their old neighborhood downtown) in the 1950s and 60s, and has had a reputation as a high-crime, high-poverty area ever since. Prostitution, drug dealing and the occasional drive-by homicide are features of Oak Park life. That said, if you're looking for cheap rent and don't mind an area that's still sketchy, there are worse areas. I have a feeling it will be the new Midtown in a decade or so (keeping in mind that prostitution and drug dealing were big problems in Midtown 20 years ago.)

Colonial Heights--depending on location, could actually be worse than the place at 35th and Broadway.

The exact place for colonial heights is San Francisco St? What do you think?

I don't know Colonial Heights well enough to give good advice. It is near Tahoe Park, which many people I know recommend highly as a comfortable and relatively safe working-class neighborhood.
