We will be relocating to the Newport area this next year and would like to know more about which areas are better. We have a 5 year old that will be starting school so would like to know what schools are better. Also, is the Newport area reasonably priced for homes or should we look to surrounding areas for the better deals. Not too concerned about the rain because we have lived in Salem and Junction City. Would like any info as we like the Newport area. Thanks in advance.

Not sure why you put this in the Salem forum. I'd be surprised if Newport is big enough to have substantial differences between neighborhoods. And the surrounding areas are mostly forests.

What forum do you recommend that I post the question in?

Salem forum is OK. Most people in Salem travel over to Newport, so know at least a little bit about it.

I don't know anything about schools or neighborhoods. I doubt that any neighborhood is truly bad.

You can do a search on Coastal Oregon Craigslist. Put Newport in the search function and you should get some places and prices to compare.

Toledo might work, if you want to be a little bit back from the ocean, and it is cheap. However, you miss the good things about being right on the ocean. Weather is slightly better and it isn't far to travel to the beach.

Thanks Oregon, we are considering Toledo because it is cheaper there but were a little concerned about the schools, does anyone have any insight on Toledo schools?
