Hey all,

I'm an avid paddleboarder including oceans, rivers and lakes. I am just wondering if you've seen anyone paddleboarding around Salem? The main places I normally look are the rivers including calmer offshoots as well as nearby lakes.

I belong to several paddleboarding Facebook groups around Portland. So I know folks do paddle up there. I'm just wondering if you've seen anyone closer to Salem?

Here's a shot of some friends and I paddling on the Carmel river.

Thanks,

Derek

I can't say I've ever seen anyone paddleboarding anywhere in Salem. I would think the current on the Willamette might be a little too strong, but don't quote me. Silverton Reservoir might be a good place to go, not huge, but not small either. Only about 25 minutes from Salem. Otherwise, I would suggest Foster Lake or Green Peter Lake out near Sweet Home.

Paddleboarding the Willamette in Salem is a new thing. A company just opened up last year that rents them. They are in Wallace Marine Park. I see more people with those pedal paddleboards on the Willamette, I assume because of the current.s

Interesting, yes, sloughs can work as well. Any branches or river offshots like this with calmer water are great for paddleboarding. I would think similar ones still need to be explored. For example, there are a number of smaller waterways like Pringle Creek, Mill Creek, Hayden Slough, etc... which may offer additional options.

Thanks,

Derek
