Hi,

Our family is relocating from Arizona to Salem in the next 4 weeks re and we are looking for advice on the Salem area.

There will be myself and my wife, and our three daughters ages 13, 8, 6. I currently work in Insurance will make roughly $45 - $50k. My wife is a stay at home mom, but may look for part time work once we get to Oregon.

Our budget for housing needs to be around $1300 - $1500 and minimum three bedrooms

Here is what we are looking for help with:

1. Best Area in Salem for home / apartment rental
2. Good Schools and zip codes
3. Which zip codes in Salem would be considered good ones to reside in.

Any other advice would be awesome.

Generally speaking south and west Salem are considered to have the better schools, overall, but there are pockets with lower performing schools. South is 97302 and 97306 and west is 97304. There are a lot of new apartments that have gone up, but I don't' know how many are three bedroom units. Finding a house to rent for that price point with three bedrooms will be harder. You'll likely have to get an apartment.

Can't tell you more about apartments than you'd see or someplace. The apartment I rented when I first moved here had poor lighting, so might want to think about some kind of supplement lighting to make things more cheerful (if needed). The scorched sky effect begins around October.
