Our family currently resides on the east side of the valley and is thinking about moving in the Granger area. We've found a really nice house on Tess Ave. Our son will be attending SLCC so the location is very convenient. However, we've seen some crime reports and were a little skeptical about the area.

Is this an ok neighborhood to live in? Would there be a high chance of us being a victim of a crime?

Any recommendations on nearby neighborhoods?

You listen to one poster - OK
You listen to another one - stay out or better move out of State !

Best thing to do is (since you have not bought it yet) to talk your future neighbours.
See how they act upon you introducing yourself to them.

Google Earth shows the street as a regular typical American township.
Most properties with a nice lot size. Some of them a bit on the narrow side.
A bit old ? But who cares ?
Clean, no car wrecks or whatever junk stuff ...

But ... , quite a few homes for sale on that street ?
Ask your self why ?

I lived in Hunter for 4ish years and thought it was a good place, for the price. I've posted a few times with more detail about the pros and cons of life in West Valley - this is my most recent (and most objective) post on it - that I'd suggest may be worth a read.

Personally I like the farther west side of the city - west of Bangerter tends to be newer, nicer, and more diverse in both income and race than the east side of the city which is older, poorer, and has some neighborhoods which are almost entirely Hispanic. Overall crime tends to decrease as you get farther from Redwood Road, which is the roughest part of the city. Do your homework and maybe give the police department a call if crime is a top concern of yours. WVCPD is very engaged in the community and can tell you which streets and neighborhoods are good, bad, stable, transient, etc.

absolutely. Talk to the local police department. I listen to them daily ;-) I'm sure they will fill you in on what and where the bad stuff happens.
