When I tell people here in California I am from Iowa, they think I would have gotten killed by a tornado by now. I think the same about an earthquake here. People in Iowa think hurricanes would be bad. It goes on and on.

Huh. Well, I hope this big earthquake happens when I'm out of town. I've never been through an earthquake before and I'm not sure if I'd know what to do during one. I can live through -50 winters, blizzards, and tornadoes, but earthquakes are foreign to me.

The largest earthquake in US history occurred in Missouri back in 1812. I hope it doesn’t happen, but hopefully the building codes will help. My house has a giant Iron beam going across the basement to give extra support and absorb the shock. Just be prepared with some extra food, flashlights, blankets etc.
