im looking to move from new jersey to utah.. i've done some searching. but i would like to get the "locals" point of view and also anyone from New Jersey that has moved there as well. Moving would be myself, my boyfriend (we are 23 and 24) and our 2 dogs (american pit bull terriers). I was looking into SLC, hoping there are many job opps available. Im used to living in a town where it's only busy 4 months out of the year.. south jersey is primarily a tourist town lol. Im looking for a safe place, where jobs are readily available(retail, office positions, etc... my boyfriend works in the audio/video field like tweeter or best buy), plenty of places to shop for clothing, restaurants, bars, malls.etc.. i would like a busy town, but not like north jersey or NYC. just want to always have an option to do at not.. we both like the outdoors so i know thats a plus in UT. what places would you recommend?

thanks
sara

There are plenty of job opportunities in Salt Lake County. My only caveat is that rent prices have been skyrocketing (up 8.8% in one year). Here is a link to a story in the Salt Lake Tribune: Apartment rents rising - Salt Lake Tribune. Retail/office positions tend to pay low ($8-$12/hour), but are plentiful. I don't know what wages are in the audio/video field. There are not that many "unsafe" areas in Salt Lake County. I would recommend not moving to West Valley or the western part of Salt Lake City... Hopefully others can chime in with other unsafe areas. I live in West Jordan (southwest portion of Salt Lake County), which is safe but approximately 30-40 minutes away from Salt Lake City. Most of the bars are concentrated in Salt Lake City. I don't think you can consider anywhere in Salt Lake County especially "busy," although we do have the same traffic problems other major cities do (although not to the severity of most). Hope this helps!

Before moving, I would advise coming out here and checking out all towns in the salt lake valley. Also, you might want to drive up the canyons and see which one you prefer. Perhaps that might help with your housing decisions. I've never heard of Tweeter, but we do have Best Buys and Circuit Citys here. Two malls in the salt lake valley are undergoing renovation: Cottonwood and Valley Fair, although I think Cottonwood is completely demolished right now. There are two malls downtown, one in Murray, one in Sandy. There is a large shopping area in West Jordan called Jordan Landing and one in South Jordan called the district.
