Perhaps the Louisiana student should not bother to visit Salt Lake City area.

We encountered a similar incident when we returned from a long stint in Switzerland, and one of our kids went to West High.
We do have to mention that we have lived many years in Germany also and all our kids went to local schools there and thus are as good as native German speakers. They are actually polyglots because each one of children can speak at least 3 foreign languages fluently because we have lived for so long in different European countries ...

To make a long nasty story short, our daughter was reprimanded for speaking German very inappropriately and was told to change her style of speaking.
We had to come to her defence and had to explain for quite a long time that the Swiss accent is way different than how a American thinks how Germans should speak.

Sounds like something that happened to a student in a Spanish class I took 20 years ago. There was a student from Spain who was looking for an easy A in an elective class and we were being taught how to speak Mexican instead of Spanish. The teacher eliminated the word Vosotros (Formal plural for "you") and all of it's conjugations from the oral parts of the course, but added it to some of the written assignments; I suppose to remind us that the word existed. This student had to eliminate that word from her vocabulary while in class.
