God himself has intervened. The earthquake dislodged the Angel Moroni's Trumpet from the Salt Lake Temple and it fell to a ledge on the building. TAKE THE HINT and use the Trumpet as a measure for safe distancing.

SOMEBODY has to shake some sense into these missionaries....

"A Trumpet Length Away Saves The Day"....

Whoaaa, easy there. you can not blame the missionaries returning from their assignments for having that whole lot of family and friends waiting for them ...

Put the responsibility where it lies!

Put the responsibility where it lies!
Yes - it lies with

- the Church which is chartering the flights and not organizing this part. It is also the body that sent the missionaries out in the first place
- the State that is rightly locking down the businesses and activity to control the spread of the virus while allowing this huge and unmanaged hole to compromise the hard work and cost the people in the state are currently bearing.
- the families that were irresponsible in their behavior.

You are pushing the individual responsibility angle with the exclusion of other parties. And, since nothing can be done about individuals being responsible - essentially tell the rest of us to just suck it up. That may be your view but that's not how a lot of us see it.

It'll be interesting to watch the Covid-19 statistics for Utah in the coming weeks.

Indeed. Without a scientific analysis - my impression is that areas with

- High movement of people (including from the areas with widespread infection)
- High density, public transportation
- Lower level of conformity to the public health advice about social distancing, etc.

are worse off. Utah has a couple of positives: lower density, lower public transportation (leading to fewer people breathing the same air). Generally speaking, I see good conformity around where we live but also notice that it declines rapidly with age. And, Utah has high number of young people, larger families, and now more influx of people (missionaries) mixing freely with larger family units. These things do not auger well.

My unhappiness with this latest story has to do with the fact that we are now in a self-quarantine for a couple of weeks. I am volunteering to bring groceries for people who are too vulnerable. With 2 weeks as the incubation period - this is an investment in the community to prevent the spread. And, this equation is completely undermined by this type of behavior. This is time for leadership from the Church and the State and not hiding behind the individual responsibility.

I disagree I think the response from State Officials and Religious Leaders have been totally appropriate!

At a certain point we have to hold the individual accountable for their actions! Those people going to the airport and congregating in large #'s was completely inappropriate, irrational, and irresponsible. However is it that much different or worse than the people traveling to Florida for spring break or going to California beaches on the same day? What about the people in Kentucky going to Coronavirus parties or the guy in NJ that coughed on a grocery store employee and said "now your infected". What about the Senators and NY Governor going to the gym hours after issuing a state executive order to close all gyms.

Many people are just not using their heads right now!

So, what do you think ought to be done? Epidemic disease has consequences for the public and not just for individuals which is why I have trouble with the traditional "personal responsibility" refrain that has become so common. Your answer better be more than "those people will get sick with the disease and pay the price" because its all the innocent people those people come into contact with too who may get it.
