been living under our table for a while now..named it Fred even though its a female...'Fred' is indeed a fine, fat, female orb weaver (family Araneidae); she appears to be a western spotted orbweaver....very common in San Antonio. So if you see one and spiders dont spook you, keep it...notice the little spider below the grasshopper? its a free loader spider

I just bought an used big wooden playset,
the base of was like a small deck, the guy lifted it up and it was full of spiders and spider eggs.
he sprayed them to kill them and left it sitting there for a couple of hours.

Later, a friend of mine and I where going to load it in my minivan (I had used it to move most of the playset)
Right when I was going to put it in the minivan, we found a beautiful black widow with it's egg just like the one on the picture.

As tired as I was on that Sunday evening...
I had to vacuum the s.... out of the minivan until 11pm because I have little kids.

I guess the definition of low maintenance family pet is changing. I think I'll stick to goldfish.

We have a tiny spider living in the bathroom that has been monitoring the local ant population lately. It warms my heart to see how many more ants have bit the dust each day. Now if I could just fine one for the kitchen!

i don't kill any of the spiders in and around our house.

i was actually rather sad when i was doing yard work and inadvertently destroyed a very big orbweaver web. she was fat from eating all the bugs we hate. i can't do yard work efficiently, i stop and take pictures and move bugs throughout the day.

scorpions and roaches are NOT welcome, however

here's a few critters i've taken pictures of while we did yard work. (the white spores are lacewing eggs.)

Dopo you crack me up! We seem to have a tarantula infestion in our backyard! Mr. X went to go have a cigarette out on the stoop when he noticed a big ole tarantula crawling up the window. For the first time in our married life, I never seen that man smoke a cigarette so fast and grab a broomstick to kill it. The whole thing looked cartoonish...I felt bad about it.

But thank god we only have those instead of the evil scorpions or centipedes! Devil's work I tell you! Now I understand why people in Texas go to church on Sundays! So they can pray to never see one of those creatures!

We don't kill spiders at our house either. They are good to have around to control the other nasties.

When my father was young, he had a giant pet roach. Those Alabama waterbugs can get rather large.

As a rule I dont kill them either. The one I found crawling up my leg was the exception. Bugs and I coexist nicely provided they stay off me.
