Hello,
Does anyone know how the Charter Schools work in SAISD? Do you have to be zoned to attend a charter school or can just anyone go there? Could someone give me some insight?
Thank you.

I can't access their website at the moment www.saisd.net but they should have the criteria on their page.

The website should give you definite info, but I think it varies between schools. The YWLA (Young Women's Leadership Academy) is open to anyone regardless of which school district they live in (I guess it is really a "magnet" vs a charter). The elementary academies (Hawthorne, Bonham) are in-district charters which give preference to those living in the school's attendance zone. The remaining spots are filled via a lottery system, but are open to anyone within SAISD.

I've been to the YMLA several times since it opened and have always been very impressed with what they have accomplished.
