Here's a new one - can anyone identify this location within San Antonio?

I doubt I'd ever seen that bldg. But, I've run around most all those little towns south of SA. In the past. Nick the old gas station photo had me thinking somewhere out that way...Welfare crossed my mind. But, all I recall only thing there was a deer feeder manufacturer. Comfort and Centerpoint I doubted as we had a lease there in the early 70's. One or the other or both were old stagecoach stops. Comfort more likely. Thanks for the fun mlhradio and Nick. More more!

Summer before last I heard about the Von Ormy castle, so I went looking for it. It's still standing but you can only get as close as the road in front of it...

There is a historical marker on the property, but it is far inside the front gate...

The following was provided in the "Haunted in San Antonio" thread which I believe was the catalyst for my search....

Quote:
Following the revolution, Texas pioneer Enoch Jones built a fortified ranchhouse, locally known as "the castle." Jones soon sold the property to famous Texian spy Deaf Smith, who lived in the house for several years. In the late 1800s, the "castle" was sold to Count Norbert Von Ormay, a Prussian count, for whom the city was named. Count Von Ormay arrived with his wife and servants from Prussia in the early 1880's. He registered a cattle brand at the Bexar County Courthouse, was often cited in the San Antonio Evening Light's gossip page, but little else is known about him and he disappeared soon afterwards. Many years later his son emerged in Brazil. The castle remained abandoned until the 1990s.
More info on the castle can be found here (http://www.alamo.edu/pac/faculty/rhines/StudentProjects/2005/VonOrmy/Small%20Town%20Research%20Project.htm - broken link).

Cheers! M2
