I came upon this and thought it was interesting:

Race maps of America | Mail Online

San Antonio was held up as being one of the more integrated cities shown. Houston is also shown.

The data is old but apparently there are plans to come out with an updated set once the census is totally complete.

If anything, I think the SA map will be blurred even further after this year's census data is compiled.

Also, I did stippling maps in a cartography course I took in college (my undergrad degree was in Geography). Mine was on the population shift in Florida over a 100 year period.

I can tell you they are a pain, but I suspect these may have been computer generated and not hand-drawn like the ones we had to do!

Cheers! M2

From the Daily Mail, no less! Nice that I can get racial information about San Antonio in the same place I get my celeb gossip!

I'm not very impressed with the census bureau this year. After all that hoopla about wanting to get everyone counted, they sent us a form in an address that had the wrong street name (at least the names were right)...we got it anyway. We called them and were told to return the form and a corrected one would be sent. Never was. The census worker did come by twice...once when I wasn't near enough to the house to hear a knock and once when we were gone. The phone number left on the notice was clearly long distance...and I refuse to pay for a long-distance call when it should be toll number or local. I did call the nearest local office and left a message both times...noone called back. Clearly, we won't be counted. If they'd have sent the form back to us with correct address, I'd have filled it out and sent it back in. Something tells me this census won't be very accurate.

Yea, I admit that those comments made me think about the diversity in a different light. I no longer think there is anything wrong with people wanting to live with their own kind, rather than be mixed.

We converted a small garage house in the backyard back into the garage which totally threw off the census workers who had to return to investigate because when I sent back the form I indicated there was no longer a residence (B unit) on property.

The census worker was unable to properly fill out the form so I had to insure it was done right, not just for the sake of accuracy but because I wanted them to be sure it was indicated that there was just a single residence on the property so they would not have to return again asking about it, the person filling out the forms was about to re-list it as a residence among a few other mistakes he made right in front of me, which I also helped him with to insure it was all filled out accurately.

Now are they not supposed to be the ones helping residents fill out their forms and not the other way around? I totally lost confidence in the census this year.

I find it interesting that they use the exact same colors used for political purposes and reaffirming a stereotype that some people always go "red" and some other people always go "blue".

But I'm sure is just a coincidence.

Here's something I don't understand... It says that 1 dot equals 25 people.
What do they show in a subdivision that has 24 whites, 24 blacks and 24 hispanics?

Maybe they stick a dot of each color right next to each other? Or maybe no dots at all if they don't have a full 25-person group to justify it. I don't really know, just guessing.

San Antonio is blurred because there's not much diversity. The Asian population is almost non-existent and the very small black population is concentrated on the northeast/east side. It still looks like Hispanics mostly inhabit the inner city while whites continue to move further out.
