210,

Nice map....great application of the KISS principle!

Destinations on freeways/highways going through SA:

I10: Southern California to the West and Northern Florida to the East
I35: Laredo, Texas to the South and Duluth, Minnesota to the North
I37: Corpus Christi to the South. To the north...see 281
281: North to Wichita Falls, TX and south to below Pleasanton, TX before joining I37
Hwy 90: This is the old highway before I10 (generally, it hugs the West Texas border to El Paso)
Hwy 151: Nice shortcut between Hwy 90 and Loop 1604 in Northwest SA
Loop 410: 53 miles of going nowhere
Loop 1604: About 100 miles of going nowhere

Make the most of it on this forum - you won't find any of it on the roads.

Default Ouch!

Ouch!,

Drivers...that is true about everywhere you go in big cities these days. You find most of the "friendliness" from people outside of their cars...there are some good folks still out on the road in San Antonio.

Actually, I'd disagree. My mother was in Dallas on business a couple of months ago and when she returned, she couldn't stop talking about how rude drivers were.

She couldn't get anyone to let her "through" so a lined formed behind here and most of the them were honking for her to hurry.

As someone who has had to drive in several cities and towns across the US (for work-related business trips), I can for sure say that no one in the US is safe from HORRIBLE, RUDE and UNSAFE drivers. Did I saw rude already?

Drivers in Santa Barbara seem to still use some driver's etiquette so when I moved to SD 5 yrs ago, I was expecting some of the same. Was I ever wrong. San Diegans are TERRIBLE. No one ever gives way. If YOU happen to be polite & pull aside so an on-coming car can get by, you never get a wave of thanks. In the last week, I've gotten thank you waves & sure enough - they had out of state plates (Minnesota & Wisconsin).

And (oh, boy...now I'm on a roll) I don't know what they're teaching in driver's ed these days either. We have a new driver in our neighborhood & she has blown through the stop sign at our corner several times. Finally, another neighbor went to go talk to her dad. Dad was upset & mentioned how his daughter got a $400 ticket for parking in a handicap zone (pet peeve of mine especially with a wheelchair bound hubby) and can't understand how she went from being terrified of driving to being hell-on-wheels. *sigh*

I am also a transplant from Hawaii, Vegas, and now residing in San Antonio, TX. People here are friendly which reminds me about the Aloha spirit, and my family will easily convert from the Shaka to the longhorn sign! I've considered other areas, and decided to live in the Northeast ISD because I have two elementary kids that attend a brand new school at Canyon Ridge Elementary School. It's pricey; however, relative to west coast and Hawaii, it's a great buy. The commute to work is approx 25-miles one way to Lackland AFB. Overall, I am happy with the decision and the builder, Ryland Homes at ryland.com. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Default Hawaii to SA

Hey cybercliff,

I was stationed in Hawaii (worked in Kunia, lived on Hickam AFB) from 1986-1990. I then was stationed here at old Kelly AFB until 1998 when I retired. I enjoyed Hawaii, but was tired of "islands" as I have spent 13 years on them (Japan and Okinawa). As my wife says, "Texas is big, isn't it honey!" San Antonio is a nice place to live.
