Can and does happen due to mechanical and other issues, and more often.

I won't speak for anyone. But I want to feel AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE MANY FEET IN THE AIR on an aircraft. Maybe others don't care about their safety, BUT I KNOW I DO.

Great quote. But, for me, it doesn't apply to flying on a plane. A plane is a temporary trip from Point A to Point B. People should be allowed to feel safe and as secure as possible.

Maybe we can have certain airlines and planes with those who agree to NO patdown, and NO full body scanner and they can all get on that plane and TAKE THE RISK with NO kind of security measure in place whatsoever. How about that?

And people like myself who do care about security, can get the patdown and MOVE ON WITH LIFE.

That might be a solution.
Thank you for saying that it is about you being allowed to FEEL safe, even if in actuality it won't make a difference.

I did post earlier that pat down it is for me in the future as my issue is both with privacy and potential radiation issues with new machines. Feel free to go through the machines if you like.

Also, as an FYI, if one wants to, right now today one can get past security even if they do not have a valid ticket on a flight, although not at all airports. One also can with no weapons or explosives get on a flight with a valid ticket and still cause problems, and this is true on all airplanes.

I obviously won't spell it out, but if you fly as often as I have, you tend to notice that there are still more holes than in a pound of swiss cheese throughout the whole process.

Hands, palms in, inside of a waistband. Really? If that's true, then that's no exaggeration. And it's certainly not a joke.

Maybe TMI, but I recommend going commando style and I do mean without underwear, not guns blazing.

To quote Shakespeare:
You strut and fret about this stage, but it signifies nothing.

In the end, you realize that all of this 'security' is just a show... An ineffective show: In airport testing, bombs, knives, guns and dangerous items are still getting through on a routine basis. When you get onto a airline flight, you're no more safe than you were before 9/11. You've just paid more in taxes so you can go through some expensive machines and feel better about the seat you're taking.

I don't fly in fear. I never have. This is coming from someone who flies a whole lot on a near-constant basis. It's not that I want no security- I simply want standardization, consideration and better training. What I want to express most here to only occasional fliers is that just because the TSA is spending money and putting on a big show, doesn't mean we're any safer. Don't buy into that one.

Hehe, that works too

I wouldn't really do it, but it's the point. Makes me feel a little better about it at least, much like cursing at someone who cut you off on the highway.

Speak for yourself, I'll feel a heck of a lot safer with more stringent security measures in place.

Radiation?! HA! What about the radiation from cell phones, laptops, televisions, medical-office equipment, and cell phone towers?????

Unfortunately, it is all around us.

Eh, I suppose I'll go through the machine depending on how I feel that day. Maybe if it's a really cute TSA dude I may not mind getting a patdown.

Like I posted previously, let's create seperate airlines and or planes for those "who don't care" about their safety and they can feel safe and secure all they want with very little security measures for them when they board a plane.

I, on the other hand, DO care about my safety.

I would say most don't fly in fear either. It's not about fear. It's about safety.

So what do you want to do? Do away with body scanners and keep patdowns only? Do away with patdowns and keep body scanners only? Or do away with both? Or do something completely new and different?

Hmmmmmmmm.

Some posts above were edited. You can discuss the policies of the national TSA in this thread, since they're directly related to the local topic, but keep the national politics out of it.

In post #35, scuba steve posted a link to the place at City-Data where you can vent about national politics. I'm sure there's more than one thread in progress where you can mingle with plenty of other members who likely have already connected the dots between the TSA and your favorite political villain.
