She is about to turn 15. What is the best way for me to go about helping her obtain her learner's permit. Through the school or a driving school? I live in Northeast San Antonio. Any suggestions, referrals appreciated

I think the school is adequate and she will be with her peers.

The schools still do that? I plan to send my son to driving school over here on the NW side. I spend enough covering up my gray already, what's another $300 or so.

My kid could have taken Driver's Ed in school, but didn't want to use his limited electives on it. He preferred to use electives on AP courses that improved his rank. If your kid is a 10-percenter, that's something to keep in mind.

I took driver's ed when I was in high school years ago here in San Antonio. I took the training through the school district, but it was only offered outside regular school hours, and they didn't offer any academic credits for taking the course.

Last I heard, NEISD and Judson were the only local school districts offering in-house driver training. If it is offered through the school, I think I would look at that option first.

NEISD offers driver's ed: North East Independent School District
However, it is not during the school day, it is after, so no burning an elective.

I took Driver's Ed at my NEISD school sophomore year of high school. My teacher was the most awesome guy ever! Seriously, he was fantastic.
