I'm looking for any and all information/opinions that people from the San Antonio area can give me about Live Oak. Don't hold back...good/bad. What is there to do in the area? Is it safe? Is it friendly? What amenities are nearby? Are there any decent parks in the area...hiking/biking trails? What is the library system like? What is the weather like...dry/humid Summers? Cold/mild Winters? Is the San Antonio area pretty? Any scenic areas? What is the culture like? Is there a good library system? Any unique areas for coffee shops, pubs, shopping, theater, etc...?

My uncle owns a home in Live Oak, which he was planning on selling - but if he cannot, he has asked if I would like to come live with him. I have absolutely NO IDEA what the San Antonio area is like, since I've never been there. The only thing I know about the city is that it's where the battle for the Alamo took place, and that's all. So before I tell him yes or no, I really would like a better idea about what the metro area is like. Please feel free to share with me any and all thoughts about the area. Thanks so much.

Here are a couple of threads from 2007 discussing Live Oak.

Just to help you avoid offending residents there, Live Oak is not an "area of San Antonio," it is its own city, incorporated in 1960, northeast of San Antonio.

Okay. Wasn't my intention to insult anyone by calling Live Oak part of San Antonio. It's just that when I look on a map, it appears to be part of the San Antonio metro area, and that truly is what I meant. And really, I probably should have rephrased my inquiry, since I actually would like information about the entire San Antonio metro area, not just Live Oak. Thanks, Bowie.

Even though Live Oak is its own city I consider it part of San Antonio much like I consider Alamo Heights, Castle Hills, Shavano Park, Olmos Park, etc. part of San Antonio. I don't think many people would have been offended by the fact that you called it part of San Antonio, shyspider.

The area is just south of 1604 and in a relatively nice part of San Antonio. You'll be close to the Forum and all the things near 1604/35. You'll also be very close to 410 so a drive downtown won't be too hard. I don't know much about the neighborhoods in the area but I would assume they are much like the other suburban areas in the area, a mix of young families and older families that have been there for a while. I know a majority of the the frequent posters in this forum live on the opposite side of town so we may not be the best source of input for you.

Thanks, Ashbeeigh! Maybe I would have better luck looking for information on San Antonio in general. I have to remember "the search box is your friend".
