Okay, so I'm new here (relatively speaking). Can someone tell me what's exempt during this tax holiday? The only web-info I've found lists clothing and shoes under $100. What about school supplies? Any tax holiday vets got the scoop?
Thanks!

Thanks, I had actually seen a similar article. So it looks like it's just clothes, shoes and now backpacks - all under $100.
Sure would be nice if they'd kick in for the supplies, too! Those three-pronged pocket folios sure can add up. Kills me when the schools/teachers put it on the "must have" list, then they never get used...

Comptroller Susan Combs Reminds Shoppers Sales Tax Holiday Is Later This Year - does clarify that it is only for backpacks - "...but shoppers must pay tax on all other school supplies."

Target had a 10 pack of the pronged folders last week for $1 - don't think they are offering that again this week, though.

Default Sales

Usually stores like Wal-Mart and Target run really good school supply sales on that tax free weekend, so even though you have to pay the tax on those items you can usually get them for a steal.

Don't buy those $.10 folders, you will just be replacing them in a month. I was in Walmart the other day and they had prong folders in 4 different prices ranging from $.10 to $.68, I bought the $.68 ones just so they would last a semester. I was comparing them and the cheaper ones are like tissue paper, the others have a plastic coating on them.

Tax free weekend is a waste of my time. It is super crowded! You are only getting 8.25% off. We buy a few new clothes for the first week of school but wait until Labor Day sales sometimes! I don't even buy my son pants until October or November so he doesn't outgrow them too soon
