And by the end of this year, she will be making $400,000 with the additional $45,000 incentive pay. Incentive pay? in view of $20 million budget shortfall? I guess she's doing a good job, but $400,000 a year?

City Manager Sheryl Sculley's salary now $355,000 | WOAI.COM: San Antonio News

I saw this story on WOAI last night and its slant and pandering made me want to throw something at the TV.

Her management of the city's bond fund gained the city $10 million a few years back and that's just one quantifiable example from a couple years back.

Within her first two years, she improved the moribund fire and police departments by bringing in new chiefs with new ideas.

We have one of the very best City Managers in the country. Pay the city manager what she's worth or some other city will buy her away from us. Are people really OK with losing her to Indianapolis or Phoenix? Do you not remember how underwhelming the previous City Manager was?

To use a sports analogy, she's the city's Tim Duncan. The team/city works better because they're part of it. Nobody I've seen online questions whether the Spurs should pay Tim Duncan millions of dollars. I'd be OK with paying Sculley $1 million/year if that was the price that the market demanded.

Or look at it this way... we're paying the City Manager what we're saving by not paying real salaries to the ($20/meeting) mayor and the ($10/meeting) city council.

I haven't been following her work lately to voice any opinions on the quality of her leadership/work.

Bo: I do agree with you. You get what you pay for.

People complain about people's high salaries especially in tough economic times, but these people all have a very rare and very specialized blend of skills and experience. There are probably less than 10 people in the nation that have experience managing a city the size of SA, and when you need someone to do that job, you should expect to pay for it. San Antonio's operating budget is 2.37 billion dollars, so I have no problem paying 0.017% of that to get a great person to manage it. Consider how much the CEO of a company with $2.37 billion in revenue would make, and I think Sculley is a bargain.

If having Sculley saved us 1% of the budget, then that is 23.7 million and I have no problem giving her a 45,000 bonus. The economy is tough for everyone and San Antonio's shortfall is tiny compared to a lot of places. When I look at what happened to other cities in this recession, I am thankful to live here.

Found an example of a CEO comparison. Abercrombie and Fitch had about $2.50 billion in sales in 2009. Their CEO, Michael Jeffries, got $36,335,644 in total compensation. Still think paying $400,000 for someone to manage our $2.37 billion is outlandish?

We could almost pay her salary 100 times for the price of this guy.

Maybe in 2012, but not in 1998.

Gillian Anderson salary in 1998 (http://roswell.fortunecity.com/vortex/330/gillianbio.html - broken link) = $3,000,000
Sheryl Sculley salary in 2012 = $355,000

How can you have issues with what she makes if you don't even know whether she's worth it or not?

I don't like it when someone questions what someone makes for no other reason than it happens to be a big number.
