I dont think I could trust "free" and/or "mobile" for spaying and neutering.

I will however toss my vote in for SNAPUS. Used them for one of my dogs and I think I paid like $80 out the door ($50 for surg + $10 for anesth + $10 for rabies + $10 for I forget what). They were VERY nice and took very good care of my dog.

I took my husband's German Shepherd to the mobile clinic at Millers Pond a couple of years ago. While it was no frills, there were absolutely no complications whatsoever and it cost me absolutely nothing. The veterinarian performing the surgery and his staff were professional and the space they performed the procedure was clean. They also micro chipped him for free as well.

This is a GREAT service, and I WISH more people would take advantage of it. The surgeries are still performed by vets, just because they are free doesn't mean Homeless Hal is in the trailer, yanking parts and pieces off the animals.

Thanks for posting, Perticusrex.

Is the mobile spay/neuter clinic now free? Because the last I heard, it was only free for a very limited number of families, such as those on public assistance.

Never mind, looked it up and according to the website, it's still only free for those on some kind of public assistance.

From time to time, they do offer free spay/neuter to residents living in certain zip codes, with no guidelines on income or public assistance.

Thanks Saph! I hate when I hear ppl say they cant "afford" to fix their pets when services like this exist! Just gotta make a phone call and drive and if you cant do either of those things, then you shouldn't be a pet owner! There is really no excuse to not square up your pet! Stop being lazy and take care of your business!

SNAP has income guidelines, but with ACS you just call the number, make an appointment, and show up at the designated place. No questions asked. At least that has been my experience, and I met none of the income guidelines.

Quoted for great truth. Stop contributing to pet overpopulation, which is rampant in San Antonio. Spay and neuter every last furry friend you have.

for those having doubts about free and mobile: it's the exact same service as in the vet, performed by the same folks who operate in the clinics, with the same care, practices and standards. it's not a promo giveaway, it's a valuable service offered to to help keep pets healthy and sa one litter lighter, for those who might not be able to afford it.

snap is also great. cheap, professional, done in one afternoon. our german shepherd was well cared for.
