You may remember me complaining some years ago that after getting my master's degree, I could not get a job in my field. So I went away for a year and got some good experience and felt quite positive I would find SOMETHING in San Antonio, the city I was born and raised and mostly educated in...

Yesterday, I applied for unemployment benefits for the first time in my life (40 something). Today, I went to a Texas Workforce Job Fair.

I arrived about 20 minutes after the start, and there were about 200 people in a line already stretching around the vast building. Unfortunately, the list of prospective employers and positions indicated that there were NO professional positions.

If anyone has any leads, I'd love to hear them!

What is your masters in?

And, if you managed to find a job and get good experience somewhere else, why did you come back to San Antonio?

I went to a small town to take a job with a lot of responsibility and NO benefits. I also missed my daughter's junior year. I have a house here...

What is your masters in?
I know Chesapeake energy just opened a local office here in town; try them. Also, Baker Hughes is opening a huge complex south of town and are looking for higher degreed people. I would send them a resume to their HR division for S.A. employment,
There will be many more big companies coming to S.A. very soon because of the Eagle Ford Shale play...

I think you need to brush up on your communications skills first. Express what you have to offer and what you are looking for.

- I have my bachelors in XXXX from XXXXXX
- I have my masters in XXXX from XXXXX
- i have X number of years experience in this field
- I am looking for work in these fields.
- I am looking for something in this salary range

I hope your masters is from a real university and not a for-profit college. University of Phoenix is a website not a institution of higher learning. Or if your college was in a shopping center...that isn't a university either.

How are we going to help you if you dont give any general details of your situation?

haha quoting myself, but look what I just found..

Eagle Ford Shale Jobs | Job Openings & Listings

but this doesn't necessarily mean that these are the only jobs. If I were you, I'd still contact Baker Hughes HR division..

I looked at Baker Hughes, I see a lot of jobs in the Houston and DFW areas, but nothing here. I will follow the link you just posted.

Okay.

I have a master's degree in Library and Information Science from TWU in Denton. I worked as a consultant for a for profit college ( I hate them) but they did pay well.

My undergraduate degree is in Psychology, with minors in AHC and Education.

I was in Case Management prior to taking off to raise a child and attend graduate school.

My best prospects at the moment are: 1) Moving to the Valley, or 2) Trying to get on with the AG's office as a Child Support Officer.

Well, I can tell you that I have strong feelings on this issue, but that was not the point of the thread. If we could stay on my topic, and not have this disintegrate in to a debate over for profits who take billions of dollars from the federal government...Yeah.
