Is there anywhere to camp INSIDE SA?

My daughter is a Girl Scout and I've like to do one overnight camping trip with her this year if possible. The scout camps are out as we don't drive.

Is there anywhere in SA that has a campground? I seem to remember a KOA or something on the east side, but I might not be remembering right.

There is McGimsey Scout Park at 2226 N.W. Military Hwy run by the Alamo Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, call them at (210) 341-8611 to see if you can use it. If not, they will probably be able to recommend some camp sites in town.

Cheers! M2

Ugh, can't you go out of town just a bit?

Here is a list of ten campsites, cabins, and ranches in town but most look like RV parks.

Merovee: The reason Dakota cannot go out of town is because of her post above and may be unable to have someone drive them over and pick them up.

Have you had any luck finding something or are you still looking for places? What about a night at the Zoo? Would that constitute camping?

Yep, was gonna say. Maybe they can tour the old Red Berry Mansion while there. If they still do tours! Discover part of the city's underbelly past. Illegal gambling and "speak easy" under one roof.

there is alamo river rv resort off I35 between 410 and 1604.

it has a big area down in the medina river bottom for tent camping. water is available at the campsights and there is modern bathrooms in a clubhouse.
trails to walk and the medina river to fish, plenty dead wood on the ground for campfires. safe and quiet.

its about 15 miles from downtown.

i live on the place, wife and i been here about a year and a half in an rv. we like it.
im doing nothing but being a house husband. i could pick up and drop off for the sake of someone getting to camp out.
