My wife and I have an option on a home that is about a mile away from the Vulcan Materials quarry on Huebner. We have some concerns (mainly, the explosions/extraction acting as minor earthquakes which will affect the foundation over time).

The previous owner did not disclaim anything but noted the explosions occasionally wake her baby up and mess with the picture frames in the house. The house was built in 1992 and was inspected today with no obvious foundation/structural issues.

Am I being paranoid? My gut is telling me to keep looking but the neighborhood, commute, and house itself is exactly what we're looking for.

Lastly, I can't seem to find any specific information on this quarry. Does anyone know how much life it has left? If anyone lives nearby, how is the quality of air from the explosions?

I wouldn't worry about it. Every once in a while you'll feel a boom and a shake, but this is nothing like fracking and the worry about earthquakes. I lived in the area from 1989-1998 and then 2000-2003 and then again 07-10. You'll feel a boom and a shake every once in a while (as disclosed by the previous owner) but I think the more annoying thing is the train that is right at the Quarry that comes by.

You are good to go. No damage since 1992? Don't sweat it. Minor rumbles will be infrequent and of little annoyance IMHO. The rumbles are of extremely short duration.

I am in Shavano Forest and my house literally backs up to the quarry there. No issues at all. Once or twice a year will there be some big blast that barely disturbs anything. My dogs don't even pick up their heads. Its a non-issue.

I grew up in the Park Forest neighborhood between Orsinger Ln. and Huebner Rd. I am having trouble locating the information now, but I could have sworn I read something about the City of San Antonio trying to acquire that quarry land to build a water retaining lake/pond.
